Development time in the laboratory at 20°C:

  • Larva: 7-8 weeks
  • Pupa: 3 weeks

These caterpillars usually turn to the twig-like brown form in the last instar, but not all do. A common pathogen (probably fungal) causes black spots to appear all over a caterpillar’s body, and it dies very slowly.
